Master diploma project
House for elderly artist with art rooms and workshops
Location: Krakow, Poland
Semester: 10th (5th year)
University: Faculty of Architecture, Tadeusz Kosciuszko Cracow University of Technology
Usable floor area: 10 108 m2.
The objective was to choose the best location and design the house for elderly artists in Krakow. I chose the building plot that is the property of the city and is situated in the immediate vicinity of the House of the Czecz Family which oldest parts are dated to the XV century and now houses community center of Podgorze district. The main purpose of this decision was the chance to activate elderly artists through giving them possibility to share their knowledge and experience with young people by giving lectures and courses with the help of community center. That idea bore fruit in the design of complex of apartments for artists, art rooms and workshops destined for wood and clay sculpture, painting, graphics, and photography, lecture and multimedia room and all sorts of rehabilitation facilities available in modern home for seniors such us swimming pool, sauna and gym.
Complex was designed as a strong and cohesive form made of twelve cuboids that are truncated as to create monopitched roofs. The space between cuboids houses café and public place and is glazed in order to create open and accessible space for people both from inside and outside of the complex.
